Palm Beach County School’s Superintendent recommends distance learning to start the year
The superintendent of the School District of Palm Beach County is recommending that the school board opt to start the 2020-2021 school year with online distance learning courses before transitioning “to brick and mortar in-person instruction when county health conditions permit.”Dr. Fennoy reported his recommendation stating that with the health and safety of students, staff members, and the community in mind, he does not believe schools should offer on campus classes until the governor and city officials allow the county to enter into Phase Two of the reopening process.Part of Dr. Fennoy’s recommendation includes weekly reevaluations on the health crisis to determine “when a phased or staged return is possible,” and the readiness of schools to transition from in person to online and vice versa, depending on the the severity of the health situation. The Palm Beach County School Board reached a consensus last week to continue virtual learning through the upcoming school year and is set to vote on the decision Wednesday.Classes are set to begin on August 10th.
