Stop by and watch Sonys PlayStation 4 announcement at 6PM

first_imgIt has been six long years since lines formed all over the world for the PlayStation 3. Sony is finally ready to update their popular gaming console, with what we are guessing will be the all-new PlayStation 4, via a globally broadcasted live stream. We’ve had rumors, renders, leaks, and hype all leading up to that bright light shining down on a pedestal with Hirai Kaz standing next to it. The next generation console, often referred to as Orbis, has huge shoes to fill. The last two version of Sony’s console have offered a secondary reason to own the console. For the PlayStation 2, the console doubled as a DVD player in a market where DVD players were still fairly expensive. For the PlayStation 3, the Blu-Ray support is still better than many of the low or even mid range standalone players on the market today. There’s no new optical media for Sony to support in this release, leaving only the ability to deliver a fantastic console gaming and media experience as its only weapon. From the leaks so far, we’ve seen the new controller in various stages of development. The light bar across the top looks like it is designed to work with Sony’s motion sensing properties, adding more functionality to the SIXAXIS controller for the PS3. We’ve seen whispers of a new camera experience, possibly designed to compete with the Kinect’s ability to deliver a controller free gaming experience. There’s even some suggesting that there will be smartphone and tablet control for the new console. Sony has done quite a bit with mobile recently with PlayStation certifications, and hopefully that means for more than just Sony’s smartphones and tablets.Starting at 6PM, Sony’s UStream account will be broadcasting live from the NYC event. Geek.com will be live, on-site to deliver a hands on account of the new console just after the event!last_img
