‘It’s too much money’ – Nicolas Otamendi is not worth the amount Manchester City are paying, talkSPORT told

first_imgtalkSPORT’s South American football expert Tim Vickery believes Argentine defender Nicolas Otamendi is not worth the money Manchester City are paying for him.Otamendi was tracked by Manchester United for much of the summer but has elected to move to the Etihad after City agreed a deal reportedly worth around £32m.However, Vickery thinks that is too much money to spend on the defender considering his distinct lack of pace.“It’s too much money, I think,” Vickery told Hawksbee and Jacobs. “He’s a classy centre-back but he’s not particularly quick.“In the 2010 World Cup, when Maradona was manager, he played Otamendi at right-back and there, you remember in the quarter-finals against Germany when Germany steamrollered them, they bombed down that side.“At centre-back it’s more compact with less space but at right-back there is a lot of space there and his lack of pace was exposed there.“I think he is a good centre-back, a classy centre-back and he had an excellent season with Valencia.“He’s quicker than (Martin) Demichelis, who has given better service to City than I thought he would, but it’s a lot of money to pay for a centre-back who is good but not express.”last_img read more
