The Church determined that this celebration would take place each year on the first Sunday of Lent, as the Sunday ofOrthodoxy, starting March 11, 843. On this Sunday every year the triumph of the faith of  Orthodoxy is celebrated with ceremony. The Icon of Christ, according to St. John Damascus, is a distinct affirmation and a reminder of the fact of His Incarnation, which has a vital significance for the salvation of the faithful, an affirmation which prevails to this day in the Orthodox Church. The celebration of the day includes the procession with the Icon of Christ around the inside of the church with pomp and reverence. The Sunday of Orthodoxy calls upon the people to rededicate themselves to the deep meaning of their faith and to declare in unison, “One Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all”.Saint Anthony Greek Orthodox Church, 778 South Rosemead Blvd., Pasadena, (626) 449-6943 or visit www.saint-anthonys.org. Second #ESIForum goes off with a bang, esports betting at the Bunkr

first_imgThe second ESI Forum, in association with Digital Fuel, enjoyed an excellent reception late last week. We’d had to extend the ticket allowance for this event after demand exceeded initial supply, and the result was a bustling Bunkr with an engaged crowd full of questions for the panel which discussed the convergence of betting and esports. The panel, moderated by ESIC Commisioner Ian Smith, and featuring Digital Fuel CEO Toby Oddy, Sportradar Head of Esports James Watson, UltraPlay Head of Esports Trading Peter Ivanov and Blinkpool CEO Suraj Gosai talked at length about a number of issues in the space. Much of the discussion centred around data, relations with game devs, and the question of how to turn esports fans into bettors. These topics and more will be dissected further at the Betting on Esports conference in London at the Olympia later this month. From left: Ian Smith (ESIC), Toby Oddy (Digital Fuel), James Watson (Sportradar), Peter Ivanov (UltraPlay) and Suraj Gosai (Blinkpool)Blinkpool CEO Suraj Gosai said of the event: “I was looking forwards to speaking on a panel where the audiences’ base knowledge on esports was already quite high. I met some really interesting companies and individuals who shared similar views. It was a really relaxed atmosphere and the pizza was great!”Digital Fuel was the Key Event Partner of the evening whilst betting solutions provider UltraPlay was another vital sponsor which allowed the evening to take place. Plenty of networking took place with UK teams such as excel Esports and MnM Gaming represented, in addition to gambling regulatory bodies, bookmakers, data companies, the press, ESL and further stakeholders from both esports and the wide world of betting.Fnatic’s own Alan ‘Mysterious Al’ Lavery was the eventual victor in a hotly contested Tekken tournament which saw some valiant performances from the likes of Tipstrr, and some top of the range casting by Ryan ‘Ketchup’ Neal and Jake ‘Mustard’ Neal. The prize of a signed Marcus Rashford shirt and a copy of PES was kindly presented to an enamoured Alan by the evening’s Official Charity Partner SpecialEffect. Thanks to ESL UK, we’ll have a video covering the event out in the near future so those who missed out will be able to see just what they missed. As the ESI Forum Series garners more attention, this second event saw a story published on the Mail Online. We’ll continue to ensure the industry and those in and around it have a place to meet up in London each month, and we’ve the dates confirmed for the next three months at the Fnatic Bunkr.Digital Fuel Group CEO Toby Oddy told ESI: “The forum has unearthed very good debate and insights into the growing esports business. Digital Fuel are proud to be a part of the journey and contribute and learn from the wider attendees.”The next #ESIForum is on Thursday September 28th (6-10pm) and a panel titled ‘Kings of the merch?’ will tackle the opportunity with esports and apparel. There’ll be the usual plenty of good pizza and drinks (included in your ticket price) for those who make it downCheck out what we have coming up in the #ESIForum Series here. Thanks to everyone who attended the August edition and we hope to see you next time! Packers coach Mike McCarthy on team’s struggles: ‘I’ve never been in this spot’

first_imgThe Packers lost their Week 12 matchup with the Cardinals, and Mike McCarthy admits he’s confused about what’s next for his team.Green Bay currently sits at 4-7-1 and is in third in the NFC North standings. It’s unlikely that they’ll make the playoffs with both the Vikings and Bears ahead of them, and their coach has some big decisions to make. Aaron Rodgers has had a down year. He’s been optimistic about his team making the playoffs, but even he’s starting to see that might be a reach this year.”It is frustrating because you get to seven losses now and you start to think about the possibilities or the lack of possibilities and you go over in your head a number times what has gone wrong, what went wrong. It’s frustrating because I like our squad,” said Rodgers. Mike McCarthy-Aaron Rodgers tension puts pressure on Packers coach, report says Aaron Rodgers plots Packers’ path to NFL playoffs, but let’s be seriouscenter_img Green Bay has some young players that have shown promise. Among them are 24-year-old running back Aaron Jones and 21-year old cornerback Jaire Alexander. Injuries have forced young receivers like Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Equanimeous St. Brown into the spotlight over the course of this season. The best option for the Packers may be to bench some starters to give a few other prospects a chance to get some regular season experience. Rodgers’ knee injury hasn’t allowed him to be in peak form. Green Bay offered him a record-breaking $134 million dollar extension this past offseason, so he’s clearly still a part of the franchise’s long-term plan. “I mean, I’ve never been in this spot,” McCarthy said after the Packers’ 20-17 loss, via 247Sports. “I’m not going to act like I know what the hell I’m going to do tomorrow when (the players) get in here. So, we’re going to do what we always do, we’re going to represent the Packers the right way, I know that. Other than that, we’ll focus on what’s in front of us.”The best the Packers can do at this point is win out and finish 8-7-1. The Bears are first in the division, but they’re currently 8-4, even after their recent loss to the Giants. They were missing their starting quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who will likely return to help Chicago win at least one more game. The Vikings are 6-4, so they aren’t quite as untouchable as the Bears. Related Newslast_img read more
