San Antonio College time in Santa Clarita Valley history at the Mt. SAC Invitational on Oct. 22, running 17 minutes, 8 seconds to finish third in the individual sweepstakes. Fleshman set the previous record, 17:19, at the 1998 Invitational. Fleshman was a 14-time track and cross-country All-American and three-time NCAA 5,000-meter champion at Stanford. She finished second in that event at this year’s national outdoor championships. “It feels great just to be compared to her,” Murakami said. She’ll have a chance next year to do something Fleshman never did: win two state cross-country titles. Murakami won her first Foothill League title this year and led Saugus to its first girls’ state meet appearance. The Centurions finished sixth. She had plenty of strong finishes this year – fourth at Woodbridge of Irvine, eighth at Stanford and third in Southern Section Div. I. She won the season-opening Seaside Invitational by 29 seconds, running the sixth-fastest time in meet history. – Sean Martin DAILY NEWS ALL-SANTA CLARITA VALLEY Brenda Cohen, Sr., Canyon Wendy Cohen, So., Canyon Katie Dunn, So., Saugus Kalyn English, Sr., Canyon Chelsea Johnstone, Sr., Saugus Britany Jones, So., Canyon Katie Kuykendall, Sr., Hart 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong.
