17 Motorbikes Purchased for Nimba Officials

first_imgNimba County Infrastructure Development Committee, through its Acting Project Management Team Leader, Eddie Z. Tenwah, has procured 17 brand new Yamaha (AG-100) motorbikes intended for the use of local officials.  The motorbikes, said Mr. Tenwah, will enhance their ability to monitor and evaluate several ongoing projects across the county. The bikes, all red in color, were sold to the county by CICA Motors at a duty-free unit price of US$4,250, totaling US$72, 250 for all 17, according to Mr. TenwahWhile taking delivery of the motorbikes yesterday from the company’s offices in Monrovia, Mr. Tenwah told reporters and onlookers that the motorbikes are being purchased with a portion of the county’s social development fund to be used by the office of the Project Management Committee and local officials, including district commissioners and statutory superintendents.“Unlike officials that motorbikes were previously assigned to, and those in the county’s Electoral District #1 and 2, the rest of the commissioners are each entitled to a motorbike.”He said the decision to purchase the motorbikes was reached during the county council sitting when the county authority approved the US$72,250 for the procurement of the motorbikes. He noted that the acting PMC chair and two administrative districts will not benefit from the motorbikes “because the authorities of the two districts opted for a different project rather than the use of motorcycles. He named district #1 and 2 as those that declared no interest in the motorbike purchase. He asserted that the purchase of the motorbikes will enable the local officials to effectively carry out their duties in their respective areas of assignments.Mr. Tenwah explained that due to the lack of vehicles in the county, commissioners and statutory superintendents have encountered difficulty in monitoring some of the ongoing development projects. He stipulated that fueling and maintenance of the motorcycles will be done by the users themselves.A large portion of the county’s social development funds is provided by the world’s steel giant, ArcelorMittal, which now operates in the county extracting high grade iron ore.Mr. Tenwah has admonished the motorbike users to maintain them with the highest sense of responsibility that will guarantee their durability. Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more
